Udupi: Zilla Panchayat (ZP) President Dinaker Babu on Saturday urged officials to utilise plastic while laying roads.

Babu addressing officials at the meeting said the Solid and Liquid Resource Management units in the district were effectively functioning, nearly 20 % of plastic continues to remain as a waste. Thus he urged officials to work out the possibilities of using plastic for constructing roads which was successfully experimented in Hyderabad.

Dinaker Babu said that the officers should visit Hyderabad to train themselves and experiment this on one of  Zilla Panchayat road in the district. Babu said he would be writing a letter to the deputy commissioner on the possibilities of building an airport in Ottinenne. He also urged officials to work on the projects which will help raise the groundwater level in the district.

He said that permission should be given to a new house which had installed rainwater harvesting units. He said sites for the homeless should be identified at the earliest.
