Udupi: An attempt was made by unidentified thieves to steal money from an ATM in the heart of the city at Varamballi near Akashavani Brahmavar here on 12th September, Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred at around 3 am in the early morning on Tuesday, when thieves entered the ATM owned by Corporation Bank after disconnecting the surveillance camera and were successful in opening the outside plate of the ATM machine.

However, the siren was activated automatically when they tried to open the cash box. The locals immediately rushed to the spot and upon seeing the damage done to the ATM, alerted the police. However, the thieves had already fled the scene before the arrival of police.

The Brahmavar police have registered a case and are investigating into the matter.
