Udupi: Three patients succumbed to Covid-19 and 109 patients tested positive in the district on Thursday.
As many as 1,895 patients are being treated in different hospitals. A 49-year-old person was admitted for treatment of high blood sugar in a private hospital.
The patient, who was in an isolation ward at the district government hospital, was shifted to Covid-19 TMA Pai hospital on Wednesday night after his swab sample tested positive for the infection. The patient, however, died on Thursday.
A 58-year-old man with severe Asthama from Maravanthe was tested positive for Covid 19. However, he died before the treatment began. A patient from Ankola in Uttar Kannada district admitted to a private hospital in Manipal died of Covid-19.
As many as 1,462 patients have recovered and have been discharged till now. Results of 594 swab samples are awaited.
Govt hospital sealed
The district Government Hospital was sealed after 17 staff, including doctors and nurses, tested positive for Covid-19.
Three doctors, one nurse, 4 Group ‘D’ workers and 9 patients had tested positive. It is suspected that patients who got admitted for gangrene might have infected others.
The hospital was sealed down for both out-patient and in-patient services. However, the emergency services, ICU and fever clinics will be functional.
District Surgeon Dr Madhusudhan Nayak said that swab samples would be collected from all staff in the hospital.
Around 94 in-patients were being treated in the hospital as on July 15.
One doctor was admitted to Covid TMA Pai hospital and other staff were home quarantined. The patients were shifted to isolation wards, sources added.
