MP Shobha Karandlaje visits Bhatkal; Warns police from arresting BJP members, threatens to launch massive protest

Bhatkal: Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje visited the house of Ramachandra Naik on 19th September, Tuesday and paid her condolences to the family.

Ramachandra Naik died at a hospital after he set himself ablaze on 14th September, Thursday at the TMC office in the city. After rendering her condolences to Naik’s family members, Shoba visited his shop.

Addressing the media persons on this occasion, she asked, “Around 100 police men and more than 30 officers were present during the incident. How could they just stand by and let Ramachandra burn himself..?”

She further said, “Even when his brother Ishwar attempted to save him and burned himself in the process, how could not anyone help them..? Moreover Ishwar was taken under custody for questioning by the police instead of being hospitalizing. Is this how the government in Karnataka operates..?”

She demanded that action must be taken against the MLA and district in-charge minister stating that they are clearly responsible for the situation. She further attacked the chief minister Siddaramaiah and demanded that the state government should soon release fund amount of Rs. 10 lakhs as compensation to Ramachandra's family.

Shobha aslo said that the police and the Muncipal commissioner must be arrested and the shops must be permanently alloted to the respective owners without increasing the rent.

She then visited Bhatkal Dysp and spoke in a drastic tone, warning the police from arresting BJP members. She said that around nine members have been already arrested, and this act of arresting BJP members should be stopped immediately. Else, a massive protest will be launched in the city in her presence and police will be held responsible for any kind of atmosphere that might prevail in the city.
