Mangaluru/Udupi: As the gusty winds coupled with rains continued to lash the districts, the citizens are struggling to deal with various sorts of damage as well as the destructive sea.
In Sullia, over 150 electricity poles have been uprooted, which has resulted in disruption of the electricity supply in the taluk. Trees have been uprooted at several locations.
The compound wall of a house belonging to autorickshaw driver Sunil has collapsed at Bettampady, which has posed a threat to the house. Another house at Gandhi Nagara, belonging to Shamsuddin, was partially damaged when a tree fell on it. The kitchen of the house has been fully damaged.
The house of Ravindra Koingodi too was damaged when a tree fell on it. The asbestos sheets of a house belonging to Lathif flew away following gusty winds. A tree fell on the house of Hasan Haji.
In addition, a huge tree fell on a 33-kv line at Beeramangala which supplies electricity to Sullia. As a result, three electricity poles have been damaged.
The movement of vehicles on the state highway was disrupted for more than half an hour when a tree fell on the road at Panjigundi.
The movement of vehicles on Kote-Mundugar road too was affected at Kalanja for more than an hour after a tree fell on the road. A buffalo was killed when lightning struck it, at Odilnala in Belthangady taluk. The buffalo belonged to Madanthila Sanjeeva Gowda.
Sea erosion
The sea erosion, meanwhile, has increased at Maravanthe.
The waves have started lashing the coconut trees belonging to a cashew factory.
The boulders have been washed away in the waves. The erosion has continued at Ucchila and Ullal too.
