Karwar: Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Md Roshan has directed the counsellors of Santvana Kendra, to reffer the domestic violence cases to the Police Department through child development officers, if any such cases were registered with the Santvana Kendras in the district.

He noted this while speaking during a progress review meeting of District-level Committee for Eradication of Dowry and Santvana Kendras, in the City on Thursday.

The CEO said, the officials concerned should put their efforts for resolving the cases, by holding counselling with women at Santvana Kendras. In the prima facie, if they found that the cases are regarding domestic violence and dowry harassment, they should transfer such cases to the Police Department, he added.

The counsellors should issue three notices to the families if they fail to appear before the department concerned, before handing over the cases to police. If the families fail to respond to the notices, one more notice should be issued by the child development officers of respective taluks and then assistance should be sought from the police, he advised.

The child development officials must visit the Santvana Kendras once in a month and collect information regarding the cases filed.

Later, a report of cases should be submitted to the deputy director of the Women & Child Development Department. Apart from this, the child development officials and supervisors must mention about their tour to the respective centres in the movement register, he said.

Women & Child Development Department Deputy Director Rajendra Bekal, Deputy Superintendent of Police Shankar Marihal, and others were present on the occasion.
