Karwar: A demand for taking action against the organisations which are cheating the labourers of unorganised sector in the name of providing identity cards under the Ambedkar Sahayahasta scheme dominated the quarterly progress review meeting of taluk panchayat held in the City on Tuesday.
Proposing the issue during the meeting, Taluk Panchayat President Prameela Naik said, an additonal amount is being collected by the labourers in various villages in the taluk through the Karnataka State Building and Other Construction Workers Federation. With lack of information, many labourers are paying the extra money. Hence, action should be taken to prevent this, she added.
Labour Department Officer B S Betageri assured of taking measures in this regard before the commencement of next progress review meeting and said, he will enquire the issue with the federation members.
Taluk Health Officer Suraja Nayak called upon the public to give information about the death of monkeys in their nearby places to the department concerned and asked the officials to visit the spots along with the officials of Department of Animal Husbandry and Forest Department for inspection. This will help the department to prevent the spread of KFD disease, she added.
Taluk Veterinary Officer Shankar Guledgudda said that they will go for inspection only after receiving letters from the Forest Department. However, Prameela said, during emergency situations, people need timely help and assistance. Hence, in such conditions, there is no need of waiting for letters. The Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Anand Kumar directed the veterinary officer to visit the spots during emergencies, even before getting letters. Dr Suraja informed that alternate arrangements of doctors have been made at the Hanakona and Devalamakki Primary Health Centres, and applications have been called to fill the vacant posts of doctors.
Backward Classes Welfare Officer said, a training camp will be organised about safety measures at the department hostels on February 8. A workshop on competitive exams will be held on February 16 and 17, he added.
