Bhatkal: A tourist lost his life after he went drowning while swimming along with his family members here at Murdeshwar beach in Bhatkal taluk on Friday.

The deceased is identified as Selviraj Perumal, aged 60, a resident of Bengaluru. It is said that he was accompanied by his wife, son, daughter-in-law and grandson while picnicking at Murdeshwar beach.

It is reported that the deceased slipped and drowned when he entered into the sea for swimming. The people who observed him drowning, rushed to rescue him, but failed. As the information was received, police rushed to the spot and conducted the necessary investigation.

It has been reported that the deceased was suffering from respiratory problem since many years.

The body was handed over to the family members after conducting post mortem at Murdeshwar government hospital. A case has been registered in Murdeshwar police station and further investigations are underway.
