Three killed after falling from Chennai train

Chennai: Three students killed and four more were injured when they fell off from a train near the St. Thomas Mount railway station in Chennai on Thursday morning. They were travelling on the footboard of an Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) train on the suburban Chenglepet-Beach route, Southern Railway sources said.

According to sources, the incident occurred when the bag of one of the persons got caught in a signal post when the train was in motion and the six others were thrown off from the train in the next few seconds.

Under the impact, all three of them fell onto the track resulting in the death of two persons. The third person died while being rushed to hospital, they added. 

Four others who suffered injuries are undergoing treatment at Chromepet Government Hospital.

The accident took place between Pazhavanthangal and St Thomas Mount railway stations and the train was a 'Fast' service from Chenglepet to Madras Beach with limited stops.
