Mangalurur/Karwar: It was learned that the dead body found two weeks back at Halekot near Karwar railway station belongs to a software engineer, who had gone missing a month ago under mysterious circumstances.

The deceased has been identified as Nishant(23), a native of Kodagu, who was working in Mangaluru after completing his engineering. He had gone to attend a job interview in Bengaluru on 8th June and had informed his family that he got selected.

He later called and informed his family that he would be returning to Mangaluru by that night's Yeshwantpur-Karwar train. But later when his father Umesh tried calling him, his cellphone was not reachable. He neither reached home nor office.

After trying to find him for three days, a missing complaint was lodged at Kadri police station in Mangaluru by his family on 12th June.

A body was found at Halekot in outskirts of Karwar town on 27th June, but as nobody claimed the body, he was buried on 6th July, Thursday at Karwar.

Later on Saturday, his family members arrived claiming that they saw their son’s photo on WhatsApp. The body was exhumed on Saturday and handed over to the family.

The death of Nishant is still a mystery and it is suspected that he may have been abducted and later killed.
