Udupi: Shankarnarayana police have registered a case against Rekha Naik, who was responsible for the death of her 15-month-old daughter in the failed suicide pact at Kumtiberu.

She had confessed to the crime after the body of Sanvika was found two kilometers away at Kubja river. A case was registered under Sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to muder) of IPC.

However, psychologists said that Rekha was not mentally stable and was under depression. Following the recommendation, the police have decided to pursue the case after her recovery.

Udupi Superintendent of Police Nisha James said that she is currently being treated at Dr A V Baliga Memorial Hospital for depression and mental disorder.
