SSLC results: Karwar slips to 4th position, Sirsi elevates to 12th place

Karwar/Sirsi: Karwar Educational district slipped to the fourth rank with 88.12% passing in the SSLC results which were announced on Tuesday.

The previous year, Karwar Educational district had received almost the same passing percentage but it had occupied the second position in the State.

As many as 9,074 students of five taluks coming under Karwar Educational district including 4,567 boys and 4,507 girls had appeared for SSLC exams this time and of them, 8,006 students including 3,927 boys and 4,079 girls have passed.

Taluk-wise

Ankola taluk topped Karwar Education district with 87.92% passing. This has been followed by Karwar (86.5% passing) and Honnavar (86.14% passing). While Kumta recorded 84.05% passing, Bhatkal recorded 77.07% passing.

Even this time, school schools fared well. As many as 25 schools recorded 100% results of them, 11 are government schools, eight private schools and six unaided schools.

Toppers

Naganjali Naik of CVSK, Kalbhag, Kumta topped the State by scoring 625 of 625 marks. C V Namrata of CVSK, Kalbhag, Kumta and Prajakta Shenvi of St Michael High School stood second to the district with 622 marks. Chaitali Moger of Anand Ashram High School scored 621 marks and came third while Neha Kale of Balbhavan High School, Karwar got 620 marks and secured fourth rank.

Speaking about the results, Deputy Director of Public Instruction Manjunath said that he was satisfied with the passing percentage. Though it fell down in terms of the position it occupied in the State, the passing percentage had not come down.

He also appreciated the teachers who have worked efficiently to get good results inspite of a shortage of subject teachers.

On the other hand, Sirsi Educational district recorded 84.6% passing and occupies the 12th position in the State. In terms of quality of results, it is in the tenth position. 
Siddapur taluk in Sirsi Educational district stood first to the State with 92.51% passing.

Sirsi Educational district, covering Sirsi, Siddapur, Yellapur, Mundgod, Haliyal and Joida taluks was in the 21st position last year. The measures taken by the Education Department to improve results have ultimately borne fruits.

Of the 9,523 students who wrote the exams here, 7,726 passed the exams. While 84.07% Kannada medium students passed in the exams, 92.83% English medium students, 64.57% Urdu Medium students and 72.58% Marathi Medium students cleared the exams. 84.65% of government school students, 84.47% of aided school students and 87.21% unaided school students passed in the exams.

As many as 20 high schools in the district recorded cent per cent result and of them, ten are government schools, three aided schools and seven unaided schools. No school has recorded zero percentage results.

“We could achieve such good results due to efforts of the officers and teachers. In many schools, students lagging in studies were identified and were given special residential remedial classes for ten days. There have been instances of teachers having worked for 14 hours a day. They have conducted classes even on Sundays,” said DDPI Diwakar Shetty.
