Kumta: Five college students were injured, two with serious head injury, after the car in which they were traveling in was toppled on Mirzan NH-66 in Kumta on the afternoon of 8th August, Tuesday.
According to sources, the incident happened when the car driver tried to avoid hitting one of the parked vehicles aside NH-66, which as a result went on hitting a huge rock that was fallen across the road. This impact made the car topple three rounds and fell into the nearby gully. Five members of the car were injured in the incident, among which two are reportedly serious and other three received multiple injuries.
As the information went viral, the significant members of 'Al-Ittihad Youth Committee Kumta' rushed to the spot and took away the two seriously injured victims to Manipal after providing first aid treatments in Kumta govt hospital. Other three injured were rushed to private hospital in Honnavar.
The seriously injured were identified as Danish and Anfal, residents of Honnavar taluk. All of them are identified as the students of SDM College of Honnavar.
It should be noted that a group of ten students hailing from Sadalgi, Samsi, Gersoppa, and Honnavar were returning from Gokarna after having a visit. Six among them were in the car, while other four accompanied in two bikes.
On studying the incident, Kumta police rushed to the spot and conducted necessary investigations. A case has been registered in Kumta police station and further investigations are on.
