Sirsi: Lizard found in mid day meal, 13 students hospitalized

Sirsi: It is gathered that around 13 students of government high school, Danaganahalli fell ill on 23rd June, Friday after consumption of mid day meals.

The students have been admitted to the civil hospital in Sirsi complaining of nausea and stomachache. Around 116 students sat for mid day meals on Friday and a dead lizard was found in the food served, by a student and he alerted the teachers and cooks.

The teachers then advised the students not to eat any food and called for an ambulance without wasting any time. Three students who had already begun eating, started to vomit followed by many other students also started experiencing uneasiness.

Around 13 children were brought to Sirsi taluk hospital for treatment. Later in evening, MLA Shivaram Hebbar, tahsildar Basappa Pujari and Sirsi educational district DDPI M S Prasannakumar visited the hospital.

Prasanna said, “We have directed three cooks not to work from tomorrow in the school. Following reports of the incident we will decide whether to continue them or not”.
