Bengaluru: Rainfall receded in Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu districts while heavy downpour continued to lash Uttara Kannada district on Wednesday.
In Uttara Kananda district, Honnavar received downpour throughout the day. A 32-year-old man, identified as Sudhir Keshav Padti, slipped into an inundated land and disappeared near Gokarna. His body was found stuck in a tree two hours later.
Heavy rain lashed Bhatkal taluk on Tuesday night and continued throughout the day on Wednesday. Most of the rivers and streams are overflowing and have crossed the danger-level.
Mundalli village in Bhatkal taluk turned into an island for some time as water from River Sharabi river overflowed. Several houses were flooded with river water. Among the five temporary rehabilitation centres opened in Kumta taluk, the rehabilitation centres at Konalli and Kadavu Higher Primary School have been continued.
Due to continuous rainfall in the taluk, the house belonging to Shridhar Erappa Naik at Bailuru Toodalli village collapsed and damages have been estimated to Rs 25,000.
The house belonging to Durgamma Narayan Moger in Mavinakurve gram panchayat limits is also partially damaged. A tree fell over the house of Sannu Somaiah Gonda at Maarukeri village and the damages has been estimated at Rs 35,000.
The officials of the Revenue department have visited the villages and have inspected the damages.
Rains have receded in Kodagu district. Various parts of the district received normal rainfall on Wednesday.
The India Meteorology Department has withdrawn the ‘Red Alert’ declared in the district and has predicted that there will be normal rains from July 25 to 29. However, heavy rains are expected in some of the inland areas.
Water-level has come down in Triveni Sangama in Bhagamandala.
The movement of vehicles has resumed on Bhagamandala to Napoklu Road. There were 14 minor landslides in the last couple of days. NDRF personnel have conducted an inspection in vulnerable areas.
Though intermittent rain lashed different parts of Dakshina Kannada, the intensity reduced on Wednesday. However, rain gained momentum in the evening.
Following incessant rain, a house belonging to Girija collapsed at Samethadka Ambedkar Colony in Puttur. Portion of a house belonging to Shanthamma Harishchandra Acharya collapsed at Sri Gurumata Kalikamba temple premises in Moodbidri.
