Shortage of sand hits construction activities

Mangaluru: Civil Contractors’ Association is mulling over staging a protest over the shortage of sand if their woes are not addressed within 10 days, said Association President M Purushotham Kottari.

The shortage of sand has affected construction activities. In spite of bringing the issue to the notice of elected representatives, no measures have been taken to supply sand, he told reporters.

The arrangement of booking sand using DK Sand Bazaar app has collapsed and the civil contractors are hit hard.

Sand that was available at Rs 6,000 per truckload is now available for Rs 10,000 per truckload. Continuing the confusion over sand extraction in CRZ and non-CRZ areas has aggravated the problem.

The elected representatives in the region have been promising to solve the woes for the last 10 months.
