Mangaluru: Seven patients died after contracting coronavirus and 272 people tested positive to Covid-19 in Dakshina Kannada district on Saturday.
With the seven deaths, the district’s total death toll now stands at 350. So far, 12,109 in the district have tested positive for Coronavirus.
Among the new cases, 104 were women. As many as 101 patients with symptoms of Influenza-like Illness (ILI) and 15 patients with Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI), tested positive for Covid-19.
Fourty three people had contracted the virus from primary contacts and the contact tracing of 110 Covid patients is underway.
Mangaluru taluk topped the list with as many as 163 people testing positive to Covid-19 (Bantwal-30, Puttur-33, Sullia-23, Beltangady-11 and other districts-12). As many as 236 patients recovered and were discharged on Saturday.
A majority of the patients discharged on Saturday were asymptomatic (137) and were treated at their homes. The total number of patients discharged from the hospital so far is over 9,209.
Four among seven Covid patients who died on Saturday were from Puttur and the remaining deaths were from other districts. All the seven patients who died from Covid-19 were also suffering from other co-morbidities, a press release from Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra K V stated.
