Karwar: Members of Janashakthi Vedike submitted a memorandum to In-charge Additional Deputy Commissioner S Yogeeshwar in Karwar on Saturday urging the authorities to provide military security in the border areas in Karwar taluk from national security point of view.

The members said that Karwar taluk has vital installations like the Kaiga nuclear power plant, Sea Bird naval base and two ports. Recently, a large consignment of liquor was illegally transported to the State from neighbouring State. This showed the lapses in the system and the failure of the Excise and also the police as there were chances that even explosives could have been transported instead of liquor.

They demanded army checkpoints to be set up on the border areas of Majali, Baleguli, Yellapur and Anshi.
