Karwar: A senior officer of the Navy was critically injured when he met with an accident near Baithkhol ghat on Thursday evening.

The injured was identified as Ashutosh Shukla. The accident took place when Shukla, who was on his way to the naval base from Karwar on his bike, was hit head-on by a container lorry. He received severe injuries on his leg in the accident and was admitted to the district hospital.

He was later taken to INHS Patanjali and then to the naval hospital in Mumbai for advanced treatment.

The police took the accused to custody.
