KarwarL Security has been stepped up in Uttara Kannada district in wake of Intelligence agencies warning of terror threats emanating from across the border.
Police and security agencies have been checking the vehicles, especially those coming from outside, and the materials being carried in the vehicles. On Saturday, checking of vehicles was at its peak at the temporary checkpost set up near London Bridge in Karwar.
Security measures have been intensified at Karwar commercial port also. Two navy boats have been keeping an eye on every boat that is coming in. Even the boats entering and leaving the Baithkhol fishing port are being monitored.
Seabird Naval base, which is a sensitive area, is also under high alert. Naval base Public Relations Officer Ajay Kapoor confirmed about security being stepped up.
Deputy Commissioner K Harishkumar, on Friday, has also asked the officers of the Fisheries Department to be careful. Deputy Director of Fisheries P Nagaraju said that the Fisheries Department, Coastal Security Police, Coast Guards and the Navy are checking the boats within the State and those coming from outside. Based on the directions of the DC, officers of all the departments and also fishermen association have been alerted about the security concerns.
People have also been asked to inform the police in case they come across some suspicious boats.
