Udupi: The sea erosion had intensified in Padubidri on Saturday and a concrete retaining wall was washed away in the strong waves.
The sea was also rough with gusty winds lashing the region. The interlocks
laid along the shore were
partially damaged. Many coconut trees had been washed away.
The sea erosion had increased in Kadipatna as well. Locals are afraid of losing fisheries road in the area.
The rain pounded Kundapura, Baindoor, Karkala, Hebri, Brahmavar and Kaup. A few houses were damaged at Gangolli, Kukkundooru, Hosooru, Haluvalli, Havanje, Kadooru, and Herooru.
In the past 24 hours (ending 8.30 am on Saturday) the district had received an average of 9 cm rainfall.
Kaup taluk is massively affected following incessant rain that lashed the region. More than 30 trees are uprooted at Mullugadde area in Ucchila Bada in Kaup. The ‘Nagabana’ at Mullugadde has lost the roof, incurring a loss of Rs 1.50 lakh.
Plantation crops have been damaged and a cattle shed has completely collapsed.
In Kombettu village at Padubidri, three houses are flooded owing to the unscientific construction of the national highway. There is no proper drainage system and water remains stagnated in the region.
