Mangaluru: Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) state president Elyas Muhammad Thumbe has vowed to launch a systematic fight against the Union cabinet’s clearance to Citizenship Amendment Bill, effecting a change into the citizenship act 1955.
Elyas told mediapersons at Patrika Bhavan on Saturday that the Bill, aiming at providing citizenship to migrants only on the basis of religion, discriminates Muslims. It is a clear violation of the Constitution which emphasises that everyone is equal before law.
Elyas said the Supreme Court’s judgement in Ayodhya dispute case is against the principles of natural justice. He, however, refused to elaborate on SDPI’s stand to the district Wakf board's directions to mosques on compiling citizenship documents of its residents.
