Bhatkal: A rider was killed on the spot after the scooter in which he was travelling in was knocked by the speeding Pick-up vehicle near Bastimakki on  Murdeshwar NH-66 in the taluk on Thursday around 6:30 PM.

The deceased is identified as Ishwar Jattappa Naik (65), a resident of Belur.

Sources informed that the mishap happened when Ishwar was heading towards Murdeshwar from his place, while the fish-laden pick-up was moving towards Hubballi from Bhatkal.

It is also gathered that the construction work for divider was underway near the spot, following the motorists had to run on the single lane. This created confusion which resulted in the road accident.

On receiving the information, Bhatkal CPI along with Murdeshwar police personnel rushed to the spot and conducted the necessary investigation.

The locals who observed the mishap took Ishwar to the hospital soon after the incident, but he was declared brought dead.

The body was then shifted for post mortem.
