Joida: Thieves chopped three sandalwood trees grown on private land near Nagod village in Joida taluk and made away with the wood on Friday evening.
The land belonged to a retired police officer. It is estimated that the sandalwood stolen is worth around Rs 2 lakh.
It can be recalled that on July 18 recently, the authorities had seized sandalwood logs kept in the same forest area with an intention to steal. The logs had been kept for drying but were recovered by forest officials. Though the logs were recovered, the accused are yet to be traced.
Joida CPI Ramesh Hugar, Range Forest Officer Mahim Jannu and staff inspected the spot. Joida police have registered a case in this connection.
