Bhatkal: Revenue officials seized a lorry which was illegally transporting sand at Karikal beach coming under Mavinkurve gram panchayat limits in Bhatkal taluk on Sunday.

Recently, the local people had lodged a complaint with the tahsildar alleging that illegal sand transportation was rampant in that area. Based on definite tip-off on Sunday, Revenue Inspector Ganapathi Methri and village accountant Annayya, Salman and others stopped the lorry and handed over it to rural station police. The accused ferrying the sand went absconding.
