Karwar: In a tragic road accident between a bus and Maruti Omni near Akrali village in Khanapur taluk, three youths died on the spot while two were severely injured on 6th September, Wednesday.
The deceased have been identified as Shanoor Malla (23 yrs), Prakash Shasikanth Desai (26 yrs) and Keshaw Nagraj Puttaswamy (26 yrs), while the youths who were seriously injured in the accident are Kariyappa and Sethya Vaddar.
All five of them were residents of Ram Nagar in Joida taluk and worked in Goa. They had been to Ram Nagar to celebrate Ganesha Utsav.
According to the sources, the tragedy occurred during Wednesday morning when the youths on Maruti Omni were on their way from Ram Nagar to Goa. When they arrived near the Khanapur police station limits, some distance away from Ram Nagar, the Maruti driver lost control and rammed into a Kadamba bus which was appraching to Belagavi from Goa.
The impact was so severe that the Maruti was severely damaged, while three of the youths who were traveling on the it died on the spot. The injured youth were immediately admitted into Belagavi Hospital.
A case has been registered at Khanapur police station.
