Rivers in Uttara Kannada dist flow above danger level

Karwar: Bountiful rain threw life out of gear in Uttara Kannada district.

As per an estimate, property worth Rs 8.5 lakh and several houses were damaged due to heavy rain lashing Karwar since Sunday evening.

The inflow to Kadra reservoir was 64,500 cusec and so at 9:00 am on Monday, around 70,000 cusec water was released to the river through ten gates. Power generation was done and around 21,000 cusecs joined the Kali.

As many as 14 nodal officers have been deputed to respond to rain-related problems in 18 gram panchayats and City Municipal Council limits. 

Gokarna

Gokarna also received heavy rain and water gushed into 11 houses.

Officers who inspected the rain-hit areas said that all preparations were in place to set up a temporary rehabilitation centre.

Honnavar

Honnavar taluk witnessed rain accompanied with strong wind. As a result, several villages witnessed disruption in the power supply. All the water bodies in the taluk are flowing at a danger level.

Meanwhile, arecanut, the major commercial crop of the district has been hit by rot disease.

Though the plantations were treated with necessary liquids, the rot disease has not come under control.

Siddapur

Most of the roads in Siddapur taluk have turned into streams and most of the people stayed indoors as the visibility was poor.

Due to rain, the compound wall of Balikoppa Government Model Higher Primary School collapsed. A huge banyan tree fell at Tyarsi in Siddapur taluk affecting the power supply lines. A landslide was witnessed at Santhegadde Majare in Dodmane village in the taluk resulting in a disruption in road traffic.

Sirsi

The wall of a community hall near Marikamba temple collapsed on Monday morning damaging the car of Nagaraj Pujari. A senior citizen Suvarna Pujari was hurt in the incident. Water entered the fields at Vanalli as the Shedi Hole has flooded after three to four decades. Shalmala, Bedthi rivers and Tanniru and other streams of the town too are flooded.

Bhatkal

Arecanut, coconut plantations and vast tracts of agriculture land submerged in water in rural areas of Bhatkal taluk following heavy rain lashing since Sunday night.

Highway passing through Bhatkal town also appeared like a swimming pool as 
usual.

Heavy rain also dampened the spirits of people who celebrated Nagara Panchami on Monday.

The compound wall of Government Higher Primary School at Hebale Gandhinagar Majare collapsed and a tree fell on the roof of the school.

Luckily, the students in the school were unhurt.

At Shirali-1 village along the national highway, several two-wheelers were damaged when a tree fell on the garage.
