Mangaluru: The Third District and Sessions Court and Lokayukta Special Court has sentenced a retired tahsildar of Bantwal to one year imprisonment and has also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 for accepting bribe for transfer of gun ownership.
The convict is Narayana Rao. Sathish Prabhu, the complainant, had approached Rao for transfer of gun ownership from his father to his name. Rao, who was Tahsildar then, had demanded a bribe of Rs 3,000. Prabhu then approached Lokyukta, who laid a trap and caught Rao red handed while accepting bribe of
Rs 2,000.
The Lokayukta police personnel had also seized Rs 85,000 unaccounted cash from Rao’s possession.
