Rehabilitation panel to address technical glitches in moving families

Karwar: The rehabilitation committee has decided to deal with technical difficulties faced while shifting to families in Kali Tiger Reserve (KTR) limits in Dandeli.

The decision was taken at the meeting of rehabilitation committee of KTR area chaired by Deputy Commissioner Ujjwalkumar Ghosh.

KTR Project Director Srinivasu said, there are 3910 families in KTR region. Of them, if 80 percent of families are shifted 428 hectare will come under forest wildlife project.

A scheme has been framed to provide rehabilitation package to around 800 families here.

A total of 650 families have voluntarily come forwards to shift.

In the first phase, process to shift 114 families is on. At present, a total of 88 families including 54 families of Anashi wildlife division, 24 of Kulagi, three of Gundad, seven of Panasoli have availed compensation.

A total of Rs 6.39 crore compensation has been distributed to them, he explained.

The families who have availed compensation are now rehabilitation in Goa, Maharashtra and various parts of Karnataka.
