Karwar: District Principal & Sessions Judge has sentenced a man to seven years imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 60,000 on him for raping a minor girl.

The convict identified as Sakru Takku Humbe of Hosalli had lured a girl to his home in a village in Yellapur taluk and raped and impregnated her. He was later arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences  (POCSO) Act.

Yellapur PSIs Vijay Biradar and Shridhar S R conducted an investigation in this regard and had filed a charge sheet in the court.

District Judge Shantaveer Shivappa, who heard the case, pronounced the verdict. The judge directed to give Rs 50,000 of the total Rs 60,000 fine as compensation to the rape survivor. 

Special public prosecutor Subhash Khair argued on behalf of the government.
