Bhatkal TMC shops issue: Man who attempted suicide dies, schools shut down fearing tension

Bhatkal: Ramchandra Naik, who set himself ablaze on Thursday in Bhatkal TMC premises, succumbed to his burn injuries in Manipal hospital during early morning around 2 am on 16th September, Saturday. As the information of his death went viral, once again the tense situation geared up in the town.

However, the district administration had already made a significant arrangement of police in Bhatkal, and also from other districts, the police forces has been shifted to Bhatkal. Yet, observing the safety of students, the district administration declared the holiday for educational institutions for a day.

The body of deceased Ramachandra Naik reached his home in the morning around 9 am, and hundreds of people gathered near his house in Asarkeri to pay last respect and later he was cremated at 11 am with tight police security. Uttara Kannada DC S S Nakul, SP Vinayak Patil amongst other higher officers also visited his house to pay last respect.

Currently, the situation in the city is absolutely peaceful. To ensure peace and security, Uttar-Kannada district SP Vinayak Patel is in Bhatkal and to have control over the situation, the police forces are been deployed in every area in the city. He asked the people not to fear on the ongoing situations as conditions are absolutely normal here.

It might be noted that, Ramachandra Naik, who was the brother of Venkatesh Naik, tried to burn himself on Thursday morning when municipality officials came forward to seal the shops as per the directions of district administration. Ramachandra Naik was one amongst the shopkeepers who opposed to surrender the shop.
