Mangaluru: Heavy rain which lashed different parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi for the past few days took a break on Tuesday.

However, the sky remained overcast throughout the day. Moderate rain was seen in Baindoor, Kundapura, Hebri, Kaup, Brahmavar and Udupi taluks.

In the past 24 hours (ending 8.30 am on Tuesday), DK district received an average of 38.2 mm rain. Mangaluru received the highest with 52.5 mm rain followed by 40.7 mm rain in Belthangady.

Water level in River Nethravathi stood at 5.8 meters (against danger level of 8.5 meters) while it was 26.2 meters in Uppinangady (danger level is 31.5 meters).

According to officials, 14 houses have been partially damaged in the district. A total of 94.2 hectares of agriculture land, 41.08 hectares of horticulture land has been damaged in the rain.

As many as 224 people are provided shelter in six relief centres in the district. IMD has sounded a red alert in the district for the next three days.

According to Mangaluru tahsildar Guruprasad, 24 people are provided shelter at a relief centre at Angaragundi, 63 in Jeppinamogaru and 45 in Town Hall.

Udupi

Airodi in Udupi received the highest rainfall with 18 cm. The flood situation in Baindoor taluk has improved.

The water level in submerged paddy fields has reduced.

In the last 24 hours, Udupi district received the highest with 6.4 cm rainfall. Udupi taluk received 8.2 cm, Karkala 6.8 cm and Kundapura 5.2 cm rainfall.
