Two die of rain fury in Uttar Kannada District

Karwar: All the 11 taluks of Uttara Kannada district have been receiving incessant rainfall for the last three-four days. The downpour brought many trees and electricity poles down, causing disruption in power supply and vehicular movements. Two people were killed in separate rain-related incidents in the district.

Man falls into stream, dies

A 50-year-old man was reportedly washed away in a stream at Siddar village in Karwar taluk. He was found dead near the village on Thursday. According to Karwar rural police, deceased Anandu Vishnu Naik, who went to the field near the village on Wednesday evening, might have fallen into the Ajageri stream. Karwar tahsildar visited the spot. Karwar rural police have registered a case.

Bus skids near Sirsi, 30 hurt

As many as 30 people, including a four year-old child, sustained minor injuries when the bus in which they were travelling skidded off the road near Dodnalli village in the Banavasi police limits in Sirsi taluk on Thursday. According to sources, the bus was heading to Sirsi from Dodnalli village. The mishap occurred when the driver tried to give way for a two-wheeler, which was overtaking the bus. Due to rain, the road was slippery. The injured are being treated at Banavasi government hospital.
