Karwar: From past two days, most of the parts of Uttara Kannada district have been receiving heavy rainfall. Seven cattle were electrocuted after they came in contact with a snapped live electricity wire at Hosa-heravatta village in Kumta taluk on Thursday evening.
This happened after an electricity pole broke down in a field, snapping the live wires, where five buffalos and two cows were grazing. All the animals died on the spot. According to the villagers, three buffalos belonged to Rama Devu Gadigar and two buffalos and two cows to Lalita Annappa Shet.
On knowing about the incident, HESCOM officials and veterinary doctors visited the spot and conducted postmortem of the animals.
Electricity poles were uprooted or broke down in Kumta and other taluks also. Many properties were also damaged after uprooting of trees in Siddapur, Kumta, Karwar and other taluks. On Thursday late night, a house at Bhavikeri village in Ankola taluk partially collapsed, damaging household items worth Rs 54,000. The house belonged to Mahabaleshwar Timmanna Naik. The Revenue Department officials visited the spot.
On 14th July, Friday morning, a tree was uprooted on Karwar-Dandeli Road near Kadra village in Karwar taluk, disrupting the traffic for more than an hour. Later, the tree was removed and the road was cleared for traffic. But, the rain gave a boost to agrarian activities.
