Puttur: Thieves break into St Mary's School Uppinangadi, flee with cash and DVR box

Puttur: A theft was reported here at Uppinangady, where thieves broke into St Mary's English Medium School and got away with cash and digital video recorder (DVR) which stored CCTV camera recordings.

The incident came to light on 13th September, Wednesday morning while opening the school as the door lock was cut through with a hacksaw blade. It is suspected that the thieves broke in during Tuesday night.

It is suspected that the thieves entered vice principal’s room and fled with around 30,000. They ransacked the cupboards in the room and threw all the files. 600 is also missing from another room along with the DVR box in which CCTV camera recordings were stored.

Although several CCTV cameras were installed in the school from all directions, their cables were cut by the thieves. The locks of all the rooms were cut by hacksaw blades.

After being alerted of the incident, the Puttur rural police circle inspector Anil S Kulkarni arrived at the spot and conducted investigations along with other police personnel, forensic experts and dog squad.

A case has been registered at Puttur police station.
