Puttur: A driver who was transporting 2.8 quintals of beef in his Maruti Omni car was arrested by the town police personnel on 30th July, Sunday.

The incident reported near Sattikallu in Kedila village on NH 75. The accused identified as Mushtak was taken into custody and the vehicle was seized.

According to the police sources, the beef was being transported from Uppinangady towards Mangaluru in the early hours on Sunday, when some activists of Hindu organizations who came to know about it passed an information to police.

On receiving the information, the police rushed to the spot and seized the beef after arresting the accused. The operation was led by Police sub-inspector Omana.

It is studied that a quarrel arouse between the HJV activists and the people supporting accused at the spot. Immediate steps were taken by the police to ensure that it did not lead to a major confrontation.

A case has been registered at Puttur police station.
