Mangaluru: In a road accident that happened in between a container and a two wheeler, a PU student was killed, who was riding pillion at Nanthur Circle on 27th July, Thursday evening.

The victim is identified as Bindu, a student of private college. After college hours, she was going along with her father Maheshwarappa for a medical check-up. After the two wheeler passed the KPT Circle and reached the Nanthur Circle, the rider was supposed to take a right turn.

Police said, while the traffic moved, the two-weeler rider accidentally moved a little left and the container truck which was at the rear scraped the bike. As a result, both fell on the ground. While the rider escaped unhurt, the victim fell on the left side and came underneath the wheels of truck.

She was immediately rushed to a near by private hospital, but was declared dead. The incident occured around 7pm and she was the only daughter of the couple.

Police have arrested the lorry driver.

Mangaluru City traffic police have taken several measures to avoid accidents in this spot after three people died on the spot in a similar mishap last year. A case has been registered.

However, due to rains, the entire stretch has developed potholes making motarists risk their lives.

”We will write to the authorities concerned to repair the roads", said police inspector of Mangaluru East traffic police station.
