Haliyal: Federation of Dalit Organisation of Haliyal has lodged a complaint against Haliyal PSI M S Hugar accusing him of adopting an anti-dalit stance.

In a memorandum sent to the Inspector General of Police, Bengaluru, Federation president Chandrakant Kadrolli stated that Riaz Ahmed Bagewadi of Belagavi had allegedly signed an agreement to sell a non-agriculture land to Shankar Amarapurkar, a dalit, of Haliyal for Rs 3,10,592 and also accepted Rs 50,000 as advance from Amarapurkar.

But Bagewadi failed to transfer the land to the buyer as promised and kept on dilly-dallying the matter. When Amarapurkar pressed for the transfer of the land, Bagewadi allegedly abused the former and even used unwanted words against his caste. When Amarapurkar approached the PSI with an atrocity complaint against Bagewadi, the PSI allegedly refused to accept it.

The dalit organisation at last got the complaint registered by approaching the SP of Karwar. The memorandum also alleges that the PSI has provoked Bagewadi to file a private complaint against Amarapurkar in the Haliyal court.

Kadrolli told the press people that a delegation of Haliyal dalits will proceed to Bengaluru on Wednesday to bring the matter to the notice of the police and the Human Rights Commission. They handed over a copy of the memorandum to Haliyal CPI Holennevar on Tuesday. Haliyal PSI Hugar was not available for comments.
