Karwar: Prepare to treat heatwave-related illnesses, says DC K. Lakshmi Priya

Karwar: With temperatures in the district rising above normal in recent days, Deputy Commissioner (DC) K. Lakshmi Priya has instructed health department officials to take necessary precautions in all health centers to provide appropriate treatment to those affected by the heatwave.

She was presiding over a meeting on Monday at the DC’s conference hall, discussing measures to be taken during heatwave conditions.

The DC directed that a sufficient number of beds be reserved in district, taluk, and community hospitals for those suffering from heat stroke. Additionally, she instructed that treatment rooms be equipped with cooling facilities such as coolers and fans to ensure a comfortable environment.

The DC also ordered that no summer camps, NCC, or NSS activities be conducted outdoors during the heatwave. She emphasized organizing awareness programs across the district and distributing pamphlets outlining precautionary measures against heat-related illnesses.

She advised the public to protect themselves from the sun by wearing hats and using umbrellas. People should avoid going out in the afternoon as much as possible and refrain from doing strenuous work in direct sunlight. Pregnant women should take extra care of their health, and everyone should stay hydrated to prevent dehydration.

DC Lakshmi Priya instructed tahsildars, taluk panchayat officials, and panchayat development officers across all taluks in the district to conduct disaster management meetings in their jurisdictions and spread awareness among the public about heatwave precautions.

The meeting was attended by District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. Neeraj, Deputy Director of the Animal Husbandry Department Dr. Mohan Kumar, District Survey Officer Archana, District Malaria Control Officer Dr. Ramesh Rao, District RCH Officer Dr. Nataraj, doctors from KRIMS, and tahsildars and taluk panchayat officials from various taluks via video conference.
