Karwar: Uttara Kannada District in-charge Minister Shivram Hebbar said that the preparations to curb the expected spread of third wave of COVID has been done after considering suggestions and opinions from District administration officials and Doctors.
Addressing reporters at the Deputy Commissioner's office in Karwar, Shivram Hebbar said that district administration and health department officials have completed preparations to contain the third wave of Corona. Experts say, 10 percent of children are affected during the third wave, he said. Therefore, full attention is being paid to this aspect. There is currently a children's ward at Karwar District Hospital. Apart from this, special 25-bed wards will be set up in the taluka hospitals at Ankola, Kumta, Bhatkal, Sirsi and Yellapur.
The Minister further said that the total population of Uttara Kannada District is around 15 lakhs, out of which 5.5 lakhs are children up to 18 years of age. Therefore, advance preparations are being made to provide appropriate treatment to the affected children so that there is no shortcoming or obstruction in this regard. He said that there are 10 pediatric doctors and 18 private doctors in the Taluka hospitals in the district.
Apart from this, the services of retired doctors from North Karnataka, Hubli and Dharwad are also being considered. At present, the pediatrician and other doctors in Karwar are treating COVID, and the district's pediatrician has informed other doctors about their weekly online training.
Shivram Hebbar said there was no shortage of doctors in the district. Recently, a total of 94 doctors have been appointed in urban and rural areas of the district in collaboration with the Chief Minister and the Minister of Health. This will make it easier to control the third wave of Corona. He lauded the efforts of the officers and people of the district and said that the number of Corona cases in the district was declining rapidly.
During the press conference, Shivram Hebbar also reacted to the statement of former District in-charge minister RV Deshpande in which Deshpande had said that there was no progress in the district's public health sector during the BJP regime but in fact, the funds were released during the Congress rule. "I never said there was no progress under Congress," Hebbar said adding, "It is also a fact that even during the BJP's tenure, there have been development works in the public health sector, including a Rs 150 crore hospital in Karwar and a Rs 250 crore 350-bed hospital in Sirsi along with the construction of oxygen tank in the hospital premises". He said that he does not make his ego a problem in the development of the district. I still consult Deshpande in this regard, he added.
