Sirsi: Poet Ramesh Hegde, who experienced the world through the windows of his room and shared it with others through his poetry, breathed his last on Saturday morning.

He was 40 years old and is survived by parents, brother and sisters. He suffered fever a month back. Later, he was affected with pneumonia and was admitted to TSS Hospital.

Ramesh, who suffered Osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bone disease) since childhood, was forced to confine to bed. He could not even sit on his bed without assistance. A bed, books and mobile phone were the only things he could access every day. But this rare genetic disorder and the physical problems associated with it did not deter him from making a mark in the literary world. Ramesh saw the world through his inner vision and described it in his own words. He even completed his degree as an external student by writing the exams sitting at his home.

He never cribbed about his ill health. Instead, he accepted the reality positively and wrote stories, poems and Gazals. His poems were compiled in six books while other poems and Gazals were published in newspapers. One of his books of Gazals was ready for release.

His enthusiasm and positive attitude had inspired many litterateurs and literary enthusiasts who used to regularly visit his house at Vinayak Colony in Sirsi. Two years back, litterateur Jayant Kaikini had released ‘Kitakiyolagina Kannu’, an anthology of poems written by Ramesh, at his home.

Ramesh always wished formation of Sirsi district comprising the taluks of the upper ghat section. He had also formed a Whatsapp group where he discussed politics and other issues.
