People need not panic over shortage of oxygen beds: DC

Udupi : Udupi Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha said that the new guidelines announced by government will be strictly implemented in the district from May 10 onwards.

The DC told media persons on Saturday that any violations will be sternly dealt with and cases will be filed under the Epidemic Act. Vehicular movement will be restricted. He urged the public to make use of the relaxations wisely.

The public should approach the nearest grocery, medical for buying essentials. Owners of pull carts will be permitted to sell their wares. If needed, labourers should be sent back to their home towns by Sunday evening.

Fishing activities are permitted from 6 am to 10 am. The retailers are permitted. 90% of the infected are not in need of hospitals. Home isolation is sufficient. More than 1,300 oxygen beds were available in the district. Of which 350 oxygenated beds had been occupied. The district hospital has received four metric tonnes of oxygen.

In Belapu, 10 metric tonnes of oxygen for filling will arrive on Sunday. The staff in-charge are trained in the judicious usa of the available oxygen. MLA Raghupathy Bhat said a 50 bedded Covid Care Centre at the MIT hostel in Manipal had been set up.

In Kundapur, a 75 bedded Covid Care Centre is opened. In Meeyaru, a 60 bedded Covid Care Centre is set up. Once the beds are filled, another Centre will be set up. Ayushman Bharat card will be accepted for Covid care facilities.
