Mangaluru: Welfare Party of India urged the state government to provide a compensation of Rs 25 lakh and a government job to the family members of the people who died during the shootout in the city recently.

Addressing reporters in Mangaluru, Welfare Party of India state unit president Tahir Hussain accused that Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha is directly responsible for the death of two people and he should be dismissed.

He stated that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act is against Articles 14, 15 and 21 of the Indian Constitution.

The protests against the same will continue, he added.

Welfare Party of India district unit president Sulaiman Kallarpe, state unit vice president Shrikanth Salian, Mangaluru zonal president Muttalib and district general secretary Sarfaraz were present.

‘Oppose NRC’

In a separate press meet, Women India Movement DK state president Shahida Tasnim said that the organisation opposes the CAA. Also, the proposed NRC will be opposed as it is based on religion.

She further stated that the claim by the Police Department that the mobs tried to burn down the police station in Bunder on December 19 is false.

“Disciplinary action should be initiated against Mangaluru City Police Inspector Dr P S Harsha and Kadri Police Station Inspector Shantaram.”

A judicial probe should be initiated into the case, she said and urged authorities to provide a compensation of Rs 50 lakh each to the families of the victims.

National Women Front and Women India Movement office-bearers Zeenath, Ayesha Bajpe, Ramlat and Shamshad Aboobakar were present in the press meet.
