Mangaluru: With the state government declaring complete lockdown on Sundays, there will no 8 am to 11 am relaxation in the Dakshina Kannada district. All shops and markets in the district will remain closed.
The district administration had implemented lockdown in the district till July 22 with relaxation between 8 am to 11 am for purchasing essential commodities. However, the relaxation is not applicable for Sunday lockdown, DK Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh clarified.
Milk booths open
However, the supply of milk and its products will remain unaffected as there is relaxation in the lockdown guidelines. Milk and milk products will be available with milk parlours from 8 am to 11 am, DKMUL managing director stated in a press release.
Vegetable markets and supermarkets saw a slightly larger crowd than usual, in Mangaluru, Thokkottu and other areas across the district during the relaxation on Saturday. At a few areas, the social distancing norms were flouted. People seemed to have forgotten everything about the pandemic and were focused only on purchasing.
The meat stalls saw more crowds compared to the normal weekdays. All the shops remained closed after 11 am. The streetside vendors selling vegetables saw quick business in the morning.
