Udupi: G. Jagadeesh took charge as the Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district from the outgoing Deputy Commissioner, Hephsiba Rani Korlapati at the District Offices Complex here on Tuesday.
Mr. Jagadeesh, who hails from Sorab in Shivamogga district, has done M.A. in Political Science and B.Ed. He served as Principal of Morarji Desai Model Residential School at Kadur for two years.
After passing KAS, he served as a probationary officer in Udupi district from 2006-07.
He then served as Assistant Commissioner of Savanur sub-division (2008-09), Sirsi sub-division (2009-11), Additional Deputy Commissioner of Haveri district (2011-13), Deputy Secretary of Urban Development (2013-15), Personal Secretary to Forest Minister (2015-16), Commissioner, Mysuru City Corporation (2016-18), and then as CEO of Zilla Panchayat in Hassan and Kolar (2018-19). He was promoted from KAS to IAS in January 2018.
Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Jagadeesh said that he would the study the issues facing Udupi district and then decide on his priorities. “It is after 12 years I am coming back to this district,” he said.
To a query, Mr. Jagadeesh said that he had urged the State government to appoint him as Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district about seven months ago. But it did not materialise then.
“I had asked for Udupi district because it is a compact district, where things are more legal and systematic. I wanted to start from the right place. If I get experience here, then I will be able to work in other places properly. I have about 10 more years to serve as Deputy Commissioner,” he said.
As CEO of Kolar Zilla Panchayat, he had managed to get Kolar district to the top place in the State in implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) Scheme and second in tax collection. “I am happy about these achievements,” Mr. Jagadeesh said.
