Mangaluru: Sandeep Patil Friday took charge as the new city police commissioner. He succeeds T R Suresh who has been transferred as joint commissioner of police, City Armed Reserve, Bengaluru. A 2004 IPS batch officer, Patil is a law graduate and hails from Bidar.

He completed his education in Bengaluru and had earlier served as superintendent of police in Ballari, Kodagu, Davanagere and Belagavi.

Addressing reporters after assuming charge, Patil said he would continue with the initiatives taken by his predecessor, which had helped develop bonding between the police and the public.
