Karwar: Ex-serviceman Ajay Prabhu (Subray) of Ankola who allegedly fired a bullet under the influence of alcohol killing his brother’s wife and son has been sent to 15 days judicial custody.
While nine-year-old Anoj died on the spot, his mother Medha (40) died on way to the hospital. A team of forensic experts from Mangaluru, on Sunday, visited Mathakeri in Ankola taluk where the crime took place on Saturday.
Superintendent of Police Vinayak Patil told DH that the parts of the bullet have been recovered by the forensic team. It will submit a report after investigating the case. More information about the case can be obtained after that. The report will be obtained after one-and-half months. The gun has been sent to Bengaluru for review.
The families of the two brothers Ajay and Amit stayed in the ancestral house at Mathakeri. While Ajay worked as a Hawaldar in the Army and had retired in 2014, Amit had an ice cream parlour in the town. Ajay’s family stayed in the top floor whereas Amit’s family stayed on the ground floor. Ajay was addicted to alcohol and used to often demand his share in the property. This had created a rift among the families. Recently, Ajay’s wife and children had separated from him and were staying in another rented house. Even earlier, Ajay had assaulted a police constable. But his brother had got him released on bail, say localites.
Crime
“During the crime, the accused’s mother Sulochana was sleeping in the house. In the morning, Amit had been to Goa. In the evening, when Medha was teaching her son in the ground floor house, Ajay arrived with a gun all of a sudden and fired a bullet. The bullet first left the son injured and then the mother. Surprisingly, later, Ajay came out of the house and cried for protection,” police said.
