Mangaluru: The Second Additional District and Sessions Court sentenced a man to three years of imprisonment for sexually harassing a minor girl. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on the molester. 

The accused, Shekara Nalike (45), a resident of Nidle in Belthangady taluk, had been eking out a livelihood as a traditional healer. On May 28, 2016, a woman and her daughter had taken her husband to Shekar for treating his addiction to alcohol.

After offering medicines, Shekar had informed the woman that her daughter was suffering from some infection and a thread will be tied to her and asked the woman to go out and wait. 

After a few minutes, the minor girl came out crying. When her mother asked her why she was crying, she informed that Shekar had sexually harassed her. Accordingly, a complaint was registered in Dharmasthala police station. Judge B R Pallavi also directed the District Legal Services Authority to recommend to the government on awarding compensation to the victim.
