Mangaluru/Udupi: Moderate rain lashed different parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Saturday. The sky remained overcast throughout the day.
Udupi district received heavy to normal rainfall in the last 24 hours (ending 8 am on Saturday). The interior areas, in Kundapur and Karkala taluks, reported heavy rain.
The areas in Kundapur, Hunsmakki, Amparu, Goliangadi, Bidkalkatte, Amasebailu, Jadkal, Japti, Ajri, Alur and Shiroor and the villages in Karkala, which includes Mala, Sanoor, Hebri, Shivapura, Yennehole, Meejaru and Hirgana, received good shower in the last 24 hours.
No damage
No damage was reported anywhere in the district. The water problem in Udupi town seems to be fading away owing to the rain received in the catchment area.
Santosh Kumar, project director, Udupi District Urban Development Cell, said that desilting of Swarna river will be taken up by June 26. Technical evaluation of the work is completed and the work will commence shortly. The desilting task aims at increasing the water storage capacity of Baje dam area for next summer.
