Mangaluru: Mangaluru City South MLA Vedavyasa Kamath has appealed to Minister for Youth Empowerment and Sports Rahim Khan to release Rs 14.75 lakh to renovate the roof of the U S Mallya Indoor Stadium which is 15 years old.

The roof has developed cracks. The seepage of rainwater during the monsoon inconveniences athletes. The leakage also damages the sports equipment, observed the MLA.

The MLA appealed to the minister to release Rs 335 lakh for repair and development works at the Mangala Stadium.

He said “I had already submitted a memorandum on January 8. However, the funds have not been released so far”.

The volleyball court would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 12 lakh.
